EGO

…But then, what is ego?
In Hindu philosophy ego involves considering oneself to be distinct from others and the God due to identification with the physical body limited to our five senses, mind and the intellect. In general parlance, we associate ‘ego’ with ‘pride’.….The Freudian concept of ‘ego’ is quite different…In fact, he never used this word at all in his Structural Model of Psych…He used the German word "das Ich" meaning “the I”  which described the defense mechanism of an individual to the ‘realities’ of the world resulting in the behavioral response in the form of Denial, displacement, intellectualisation, fantasy, compensation, projection, rationalization, reaction formation, regression, repression, sublimation etc…..
Limiting ourselves to the Hindu philosophy, losing ego may mean to break the shield or barrier between ‘oneself’ and the ‘God and His creation’….
